Mark Wernich appointed as New Vice President for Taj Hotels in Africa

The Indian Hotels Company Limited has appointed Mark Wernich to be the group’s Vice President for the Taj Hotels in Africa.

In this new role, Mark Wernich will reportedly oversee business development and operations across the continent.

For over seven years now, Mark Wernich has been associated with the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) since 2018.

He was mostly based in Cape Town, South Africa, where he has been responsible for the operations across the continent and the hotels development.

During his tenure, he also served as General Manager within the Taj Hotels Palaces Resorts Safaris portfolio.

Again prior to this role, Mark was the Director in charge of Business Development in Africa, at the Preferred Hotels & Resorts.

Wernich has also held leadership roles with Faircity Hotels as Cluster General Manager, and with Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, where he served as General Manager for Radisson Blu Gautrain and Park Inn Cape Town Foreshore, overseeing hotel operations, pre-opening activities, and commercial functions.

Earlier in his career, he was involved in the opening phase of Radisson Blu Hotel in Cape Town Blaauwberg, managing pre-opening planning, team recruitment, budgeting, and sales and marketing initiatives.

In his current role, Wernich will support the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL)’s expansion strategy in Africa, including strengthening the firm’s portfolio and overseeing operational performance across existing properties.

According to an official statement from the company, the appointment of Mark Wernich reflects IHCL’s continued focus on expanding its presence in Africa and strengthening its leadership structure in the region.

Currently operating in 15 countries and running over 645 hotels, in more than 300 locations, the Indian Hotels Company Limited has been in the hospitality business for over 120 years.

The IHCL has been the cornerstone of South Asia’s hotel industry, setting global benchmarks in luxury and service excellence.

The Indian Hotels Company Limited IHCL’s expansive portfolio spans 645 hotels across four continents, anchored by the legacy of its flagship property, The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai.

Today, IHCL is a House of Brands spanning all segments of hospitality, food and beverage and related services.
