Ghana is getting the first Hilton Hotel in West Africa. The Hampton property with 170 rooms opens near Accra Airport
The International Finance Corporation is providing a long-term financing to PLP Properties, which is a Ghanaian property investment and development company for the establishment of the first Hilton Hotel in the West African country.
The funds are for the proposed Hampton Hotel, which is the first Hilton property in Ghana, which is planned for Accra City.
The new Hilton Hotel with 170 rooms, is to be located near the Accra International Airport in the Ghanaian Capital.
The Hampton by Hilton Accra Airport is positioned to become Hilton’s first hotel to open in Ghana and one of the first Hampton by Hilton properties in West Africa.
The property is expected to broaden the range of accommodation available to business and leisure travellers in a market where most internationally branded hotels serve the upscale segment.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC)’s project disclosure lists the financing as a loan of up to US$10 million.
The hotel has a total project cost being estimated at US$29 million, with the remaining US$19 million to be funded through sponsor equity.
“Our vision goes beyond building a hotel,” said Jean-Louis Feghali, executive director of PLP Properties in Ghana.
“Hampton by Hilton Accra Airport will strengthen Accra’s hospitality offering, create jobs, support local suppliers, and serve business and leisure travellers. We value the support from the International Finance Corporation in helping us deliver the project in line with international sustainability standards.”
“Investment in quality, sustainable accommodation can strengthen Ghana’s tourism sector and support jobs across the wider economy,” said Nathalie Kouassi Akon, the International Finance Corporation’s division director for West Africa Gulf of Guinea.
“The IFC’s partnership with PLP Properties will expand Accra’s hospitality offering, strengthen demand for local goods and services, and promote more sustainable hotel development,” Akon maintained.
Hilton currently operates 63 hotels in Africa, with plans to expand to more than 160 hotels as over 100 new properties open in the coming years.
Hilton, which is a Hospitality group based in the United States, reported 9,158 properties with 1,351,351 rooms in 143 countries and territories around the globe.
Meanwhile the International Finance Corporation (IFC) is a global financial institution and a member of the World Bank Group, based in Washington, DC, which offers investment, advisory, and asset management services to encourage private sector enterprises in developing countries.
