SUJÁN enters Africa with the acquisition of Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro in Zambia

The Anand Group of India which runs SUJÁN properties, has made its first expansion into Africa with the acquisition of Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro from Chiawa Safaris in Zambia

The move marks the conservation-led luxury hospitality company’s first significant international expansion beyond India.

The acquisition establishes SUJÁN’s presence in Lower Zambezi National Park, one of Zambia’s prominent wilderness and wildlife regions, and forms part of the company’s strategy to build a global portfolio of conservation-led camps and lodges.

Over the next four years, SUJÁN plans to more than double its portfolio through selective expansion aligned with its approach to conservation, hospitality and long-term stewardship.

The company said the addition of Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro reflects a growth strategy centered on properties and partners that share similar conservation values.

For more than 25 years, SUJÁN has developed wilderness experiences in India with conservation and community engagement at its core.

Its existing camps operate in ecologically significant landscapes, with initiatives focused on protecting and restoring natural habitats while supporting neighbouring communities.

Located along the banks of the Zambezi River, Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro are known for wildlife experiences and small-scale safari hospitality within the Lower Zambezi ecosystem.

Chiawa Safaris has operated in the region for more than three decades, developing the two properties around a conservation-focused approach.

The founders of Sujan group are Mrs. Anjali Singh and Mr. Jaisal Singh.

Commenting on the acquisition, Jaisal Singh, Founder and Chairman of SUJÁN, said, Africa has always been a special place for them.

“Not only for its extraordinary wildlife and landscapes, but for the role it has played in demonstrating how thoughtful and responsible tourism can be a partner in the conservation process,” he said.

“This is far more than a geographic expansion for SUJÁN. It is a natural extension of what we have believed and practised for more than 25 years: that exceptional hospitality must have a greater purpose, protecting the natural world, strengthening local communities and ensuring that wild places remain wild for generations to come.”

Anjali Singh, Co-Founder of SUJÁN and Executive Chairperson of ANAND Group, added that since its inception, SUJÁN has been guided by the belief that meaningful hospitality can foster a deeper connection with the natural world.

“As we expand beyond India, we remain firmly anchored in the principles of authenticity, stewardship and conservation that have shaped our journey from the beginning,” she said.

Anjali pointed out that, welcoming Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro into the SUJÁN family is an important milestone, bringing together two family-founded organisations united by a common purpose.

“We look forward to building upon Chiawa’s remarkable legacy and demonstrating how thoughtful hospitality can make an enduring contribution to the protection of ecosystems, the empowerment of local communities and the preservation of wilderness.”

The acquisition advances SUJÁN’s plans to develop a wider international portfolio of conservation-led wilderness camps and lodges. With the addition of the two Zambian properties, its portfolio will extend across wilderness regions in both Asia and Africa, while retaining its focus on conservation, community engagement and experiential hospitality.
