Aya Sophia Wildlife Villa: The new Garden of Eden at the foot of Mount Meru

When it comes to Safaris in Africa, Humans touring the continent seem to have seen it all.

Or have they?

Well, they have already visited the best National Parks and Game Reserves, stayed in the top of the range luxury hotels and camped around bushes.

But what if all of the above could be bundled into a single package?

This is where ‘Aya Sophia’ comes in.

A safari lodge with a difference, where the city luxury meets the untamed bush and wild animals speak human language.

Where wild animals speak human language

If there is one story which sparks drama, romance, mystery and idyllic atmosphere all set within an untamed virgin paradise, then it is the garden of Eden saga told and retold through sacred books cutting across various religions and sects.

And for centuries people have been fantasizing about revisiting the life of Eden.

It has now been made possible.

At the wildlife villa in Arusha, this is where Aya Sophia rewrites the story of Eden

An ancient garden where people and wildlife mingle, share lives and exchange stories.

The Wildlife Villa and Game Sanctuary is located at Maji ya Chai area, some 3 kilometers off the main Moshi-Arusha highway.

The distance to the lodge is about 20 kilometers from Kilimanjaro International and 30 kilometers from Arusha Airport or 25 kilometers from the city.

It is still new, having established in July 2025

But there is the other, much older, Aya Sophia Hotel in Dar-es-salaam which has been around for four years now.

But the Wildlife Villa of Arusha is located at Maji-ya-Chai ward on the foot of Mount Meru.

It features several wildlife species, including Dik-Dik, Zebra, Impala, Peacock, Giraffe, Ostrich, Wildebeest, wild geese and the soon to be added, Lions and Cheetahs.

Just like in Eden, the property is sprawling across 47 acres of hybrid acacia woodland, bushes, grassland all crisscrossed by natural springs where one can watch wildlife grazing, jumping and running across the lush-green landscape.

Picture this; you are staying at a top-end luxury lodge, not far from the city but again surrounded by a variety of wildlife species and natural vegetation usually reserved for strictly protected areas.

Even better at the Aya Sophia Wildlife Villa, one gets to converse with these animals and all can understand your language

Well at least, the Maasai Morans who are taking care of the animals, and serving as guides have taught the species human language so they can understand a number of Kiswahili and English commands.

The Ngorongoro Effect

Using the Maasai as guides essentially recreates a typical Ngorongoro conservation area setting.

The animals know their names and despite looking alike, the Morans can easily identify each of them.

And the animals respond to their call, understand the words and seem to communicate well with people, just like old friends.

The property offers three types of boarding in secluded villas’ including the standard rooms, royal villas, and golden villas

With family suite one gets a villa with two self-contained rooms, spacious seating room, capable of hosting a family of five.

The Golden villa has a single large self-contained room and a sitting room designed for two to three people.

Then there are standard rooms, meant for couple, featuring a sitting room, self-contained bedroom with a communal bathtub in the secluded back area.

By the way, each villa has its own private swimming pool in case one wants to take a solitary splash away from the crowd.

Now for the food; Aya Sophia boasts a modern restaurant in the bush which can accommodate between 80 and 100 people at one sitting. It offers a blend of Swahili dishes, continental flavors and International Cuisine.

Of course, room service is also available 24/7 in case one wants to dine alone or with family at their villas.

For the beverages there is a specialized coffee lounge for those espressos, cappuccinos, teas and chocolates.

But in case the trip there wasn’t all about leisure, then Aya Sophia has got you covered, there is ample and conducive space for those office meetings and other serious agenda setting activities

At the Villa, guests can participate in a number of excursions including quad bike riding in the thickest to watch animals, Traditional Maasai dancing where they can also participate complete with the cultural attire, feeding the animals and of course swimming.

With arrangement, the lodge offers specialized horse riding but soon these activities will become part and parcel at the property because stables are under construction

“Most ​guests who spend days and nights here are foreign tourists, ​but local Tanzanians ​simply enjoy coming here during weekends, spend the ​entire day walking alongside wildlife​, taking photos, feeding the animals and depart in the evening,” explained the Manager Said Abdulaziz.
