Hotels Manager Conference Africa 2026 to address pitfalls in the continent’s hospitality industry

Nigeria is hosting the 2026 edition of Hotel Managers Conference Africa just as the annual event marks its 10th Anniversary.

Once again, African hospitality stakeholders will converge in Lagos for the Hotel Managers Conference Africa (HMCA), where discussions will centre on raising service standards, strengthening policy support, improving workforce capacity and positioning Africa’s hospitality industry for greater competitiveness.

The two-day conference, which has attracted hundreds of participants from all over the continent, is running under the theme of “Raising the Bar: Sales, Service and Standards for a Competitive Africa.”

This year’s Hotel Managers Conference Africa (HMCA 2026) event is taking place at the Grand African Ballroom, of the Lagos Continental Hotel, on Victoria Island. It runs from the 11th to the 12th of July 2026.

One of the conference organizers is Sunday Olugbenga Omotayo the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Tojum Hospitality in Nigeria.

Sunday Omotayo said that the conference had evolved into one of Africa’s leading hospitality gatherings since it was established ten years ago in 2016, though the series of the events have been running for eight years.

According to Sunday, the conference is expected to attract participants from across Nigeria the host country and 13 other African Nationals.

The above reflects the growth of the conference, which started in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, before expanding to Port Harcourt, Owerri and Lagos as part of a deliberate strategy to take the initiative across Nigeria before expanding it continentally.

The organizers say the event has attracted participants from all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, with one edition recording physical attendance from 27 states, while recent editions have continued to draw delegates from West, East and Central Africa.

Sunday disclosed that this year’s edition had already confirmed participants from 13 countries, including Ghana and Uganda, adding that the organizers expected another increase in continental participation.

As far as he is concerned, the vision behind the conference was to bridge the long-standing gap between indigenous hotel brands and international hospitality chains by exposing hotel managers to global best practices.

The convener expressed concern that some of the best hotels in Africa have been closing down and it was therefore important to start empowering operators with skills and knowledge to ensure the properties sustainability.
